Teaching My Friends How To Code

Teaching My Friends How To Code

So, I recently challenged myself to start sharing the knowledge I have been acquiring as a self-taught programmer. So far it has been a challenging yet rewarding experience.

How did I start teaching?

My friends noticed how passionate I was about programming and since they were also interested in learning how to code they thought I could teach them. Guess they thought I was a 'guru' or something. I was so nervous and questioned why they even trusted me to teach them. I mean, I was jobless, and I still am lol! but steadily working towards landing an awesome job in tech. It took some time for me to summon the courage and believe in my abilities... I mean... I had nothing to lose, right? As I began to explain coding concepts to them and answer their questions, I found that my understanding of the material deepened and I thought to myself .... This is awesome Ess!!

Benefits of teaching others as a self-taught programmer.

Teaching others can help you solidify your own understanding of programming concepts.

As you explain coding concepts, you are forced to think about the material from different perspectives, which can deepen your understanding of the topic. By answering my friends' questions and helping them work through problems, I found that I was also reinforcing my own knowledge and skills.

Teaching programming to others can help you develop your teaching and communication skills.

Have you ever been in a situation where you know how to work something our practically but can't 'for the love of God' explain to someone in simple English how its done? Explaining complex coding concepts to my friends in a way that is easy to understand has really been challenging, especially since I am also learning some of this stuff myself. Despite the challenge, I think this is an excellent opportunity to improve my communication skills. I am also developing my ability to tailor my teaching approach to different learning styles, which is a plus and a valuable skill in any field.

It is a satisfying and rewarding experience.

Seeing how my friends light up when they learn something new feels so good! It's also a boost to the ego when someone appreciates your work. Thanks 'friends' for always giving me that confidence boost. My greatest desire is that you get to achieve your goals in this case tech related and secure that bag!

In summary, I think I made the best decision to teach my friends how to code as I keep sharpening my programming skills. I'll keep updating you on how it goes. I believe it will get better and better coz FYI I am teaching the most amazing humans in the whole entire world.
